Heinrich Altherr reacted to the events of his time with a profoundly expressive, if not existentialist style, which, however, eludes the color violence of the Brücke painters just as much as the poetic expression of the Blaue Reiter. Rather, he is committed to the classical formal language oriented on Hans von Marees. Nevertheless, the Karlsruhe, then Stuttgart academy teacher commented in his work on social developments in sometimes visionary images.
