The works of Edda Jachens are characterized by clear, geometric patterns, which in their reduced pictorial composition are reminiscent of Piet Mondrian. In 1998, Jachens began a new group of works that oscillates between painting and sculpture by covering the works with a 3 to 4 millimeter thick layer of kerosene wax. Through the evenly transparent wax layer, the colors and forms underneath are brought together to form a harmonious, even gentle and downright calm surface. The hard contrast of the forms is blurred by the kerosene. The abstract forms seem to float in space through the kerosene layer. The shapes and colors move into indefinable depth. The result: tranquility and contemplation. It seems as if the geometric shapes are surrounded by a mysterious aura.
