Miriam Vlaming takes up narrative elements from the world of myths and fairy tales, but also from contemporary times, in order to point to the mysterious complexity of our world of thoughts: Collective as well as individual memories, biographical as well as genre-related, archaic as well as known intertwine. The fact that the artist almost exclusively uses egg tempera is a reference to the old tradition of painting, which she also addresses in her work: Underlayers are painted over, narrative moments overlay the composition. "It is precisely the fragmentary that forms the basic tapestry of my painting." The painter's worldview is a postmodern contribution to symbolic cultural anthropology: culture appears here as a network of meanings, a "dense description" of the web of meanings in which man is entangled.
