Jürgen Brodwolf understands his tube figure, developed in 1959, as a sculptural form that can be altered in a way that makes the spiritual and mental states of human existence perceptible. A certain timelessness, a mystical power emanates from the representation of his work "Mandorla", which was created around 1965. Through the integration of his "Tubenfigur" into the object box, associative-narrative connections are developed. The almost scenically arranged constellation of book cover and almond-shaped piece of wood (in the role of the halo that encloses the figure body draped on it) is reminiscent of Byzantine icons. At the same time, the work announces man's existential striving for something higher, respectively man's confrontation with God as well as life after death. Depending on the background of his ideological and social view, it is left to the pensive viewer to make his own chains of associations.
