Jürgen Brodwolf conceives of his tube figure, developed in 1959, as a sculptural form that can be altered in a way that makes the spiritual and mental states of human existence perceptible. The concentrated and poetic power of Brodwolf's pictorial works is deeply touching. His artistic explorations, which are never routine, also incorporate mythological themes, such as Ovid's "Metamorphoses," as shown in his work "Icarus II," created in the 1980s. The constellation arranged in the object box, in combination with the tube figure and the tin sheet folded up behind it like a wing, tells of man's impetuous striving for something higher. This theme is aptly accompanied by Brodwolf's creative will to reshape and model, which never shies away from experimentation. Only when the artistically valuable state is reached does he end the often protracted work process and declare his pictorial form-finding to be complete. The tragic crash of Icarus from Ovid's "Metamorphoses", who flew too high and too close to the sun, serves here as a literary model, but each viewer, depending on his ideological and social view, is free to search for his own interpretations and answers.
