The 1993 work "Giverny-Ex-II" by Karl Otto Götz from the series "Giverny" is a homage to Claude Monet and the water lily pond he himself created in his garden in the French village of Giverny. However, the idea emerged from a color experiment that had nothing to do with Monet motifs - the sound of the words fascinated him more at first. The colorfulness, structured in splinters and scraps, is expressively ecstatically heightened. While Götz usually limits himself to the scale between black and white in his informal paintings, he sets "an informal structure of pure colors in vibration" (Rissa) with these paintings. Two paintings from the "Giverny" series also hang in the Villa Hammerschmidt, the Bonn second residence of the German president. Götz's works represent a European answer to American abstract expressionism. Characteristic of his works is their expressive, swirling texture. Rapid progressions of form, furious brushstrokes, and dynamic squeegee strokes intertwine to create a powerful, rhythmic organization.
