Around 1963 Stöhrer occupied himself with the Polish author Bruno Schulz, whose "Cinnamon Shops" (1934) elevated the so-called "mythology of childhood" to a leitmotif. Stöhrer received important impulses in particular from the "Genesis" treatise in the aforementioned work. Passages from this literary masterpiece can be read like illustrations of Stöhrer's painting, for example, when it says: "Our creatures will not be the heroes of many-volume novels. Their roles will be short and succinct, their characters without more extensive planning. Often only a gesture, for a single word, we will take the trouble to bring them to life for this one moment".
