Volker Lehnert literally creates images of reality. What he has directly in front of his eyes - on trips, on exploratory excursions - flows into it just as much as what is remembered, imagined, invented: for no one grasps what is seen without what is additionally known and even without what is unconscious. The painting "Bang" is recognizably a piece of forest. But the blurring, breaks in content and not least the lettering "BANG BANG" makes the picture more than that: childlike cowboy games in the forest, collage-like remembered from spatially and temporally different levels (lake, forest), coloristically independent structures.
