Rifleman's mug, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Schützengilde in Innsbruck, 1909
donated by Archduke Eugen, TLMF, Historical Collections, Innsbruck
Since around 2010, Sinje Dillenkofer has been dealing with the task of museum institutions as collection and storage sites of culture in one of her various groups of works, the "Cases". The photographer makes systems of order visible - the storage here becomes the image, the 'Kasten' (case) becomes the image. in this work it stands for a "Schützenbecher, aus Anlass des zehnjährigen Stiftungsschießens der akad. Schützengilde in Innsbruck, 1909 gespendet von Erzherzog Eugen, TLMF, Historische Sammlungen, Innsbruck" - according to Dillenkofer, who attaches importance to such archival designations. She photographs the empty container, whose empty spaces can be perceived as containing value and meaning, in other words: one suspects what was in the container (cup, cutlery, etc.). This now embodies - alienated in color and monumentalized - the absent, even more: the invisible becomes sensually tangible.
