In her visual language, Anna Bittersohl creates a multiple world in which she places the human being, who, although creatively responding to his environment, can hardly grasp it as a whole. In this way, she reacts in a purely painterly way to the complex perceptual constraints of our reality: in the digital age, we are constantly confronted by superimpositions of natural and virtual impressions. Instead of using digital techniques herself, she processes her findings by means of classical oil painting on canvas or - in small format - on wood. Private memories and experiences are mixed with fairy-tale and legendary elements; nature-like depictions alternate with abstract-expressive color interventions. The artist confidently understands how to represent the different layers of perception through overpainting, seemingly dematerialized painting processes and simultaneous sceneries (such as temporally or spatially different actions). In addition, Anna Bittersohl places the human being as well as a variety of fauna (especially horses, birds) in a jungle-like, hardly accessible and wild nature, which, as it were, reproduces the external reality, which can hardly be penetrated rationally, and the fragile, many-branched inwardness of the human being. The appearing people themselves - knights, pilgrims, adventurers, saints, dreamers or fighters (sometimes male or female or diversely pronounced) - tend subjectively to failure, but signal no less a longing and hoping. The pleasure of pure painting blurs such sensitivities in a way that unites technical brilliance and painterly beauty.
