Horst Janssen found his unmistakable profile in drawing and etching. He wanted to live the maximum, just as he felt capable of creating the maximum as a draftsman and graphic artist. In this high tension Horst Janssen has his fears and his desires as freely shoot as the addictions alcohol and pills.
In the works of the portfolio "Hanno's Death" Janssen plays on 23 self-portraits on the occasion of the typhoid chapter from Thomas Mann's "Buddenbrooks" the disintegration as a result of the disease. In the 1970s and 1980s, a magnificent series of color etchings, some of them in large format, was created, printed by Hartmut Frielinghaus with the greatest sensitivity and mastery of craftsmanship.
