Cubic Forms - Hans Steinbrenner on his 90th Birthday

Galerie Schlichtenmaier is pleased to open its first major online exhibition. This is in response to the growing importance of online presence and complements both the gallery exhibitions in the locations Schloss Dätzingen and Stuttgart with a third, medial location, as well as their accompanying online exhibitions with independent presentations. The works presented are all available in the gallery and can be viewed on request.

With his cubic "figures" developed in the early 1960s, Hans Steinbrenner created stele-like, sublime spatial bodies, which as miniature as well as monumental sculptures are reminiscent of cultic objects. With his titles - in addition to the neutral-abstract designation "Composition" also "Figure" - he suggested to the viewer to associate human statues here, but even the conceivable figure of head, torso and leg part always remains committed to a many-viewed composed construction plan. Reduction and geometrization are part of its characterization. With his view of the whole of form, the artist strives for a meditative harmony, whereby his active interest in the philosophy of Zen Buddhism gave him the spiritual support. Indeed, the statuesque bronze and wooden bodies radiate a sensual calm that makes Steinbrenner's art a lasting experience.
