What's up?! / Contemporary positions for the 50th anniversary of the gallery

WHAT'S UP?! shows current works by 39 artists who are part of the permanent program of Galerie Schlichtenmaier or who were invited especially for the anniversary exhibition. With a few exceptions, the works shown are from 2018 and 2019. Born between 1939 - Ben Willikens and Horst Kuhnert celebrate their 80th birthdays this year - and 1982, the list of artists makes clear their intergenerational and pluralistic aspirations.

WHAT'S UP?! also seeks an international context -Luzia Simons processes her Brazilian roots, Xianwei Zhu Chinese philosophy with European tradition.

WHAT'S UP?! encompasses all techniques from painting, sculpture, graphics, and drawing to photographic and digital art, exploring the non-objective realms as well as the figurative-objective. Gestural positions are in dialogue with analytical, sensual moments next to conceptual ideas.

WHAT'S UP?! invites you to a tour of discovery. Platino shows for the first time a completely new phase of his work, Peter Sehringer comes up with innovative works on the theme of self-portrait, but in addition, artists exhibit their work for the first time in the gallery Schlichtenmaier - representative is Anna Bittersohl as the youngest participant mentioned.

WHAT'S UP?! is a beginning - at regular intervals, Galerie Schlichtenmaier wants to draw attention to the latest creations from the artists' studios.
