Online exhibition

Stuttgart avant-garde / in the environment of O. Schlemmer

We are pleased to invite you to the exhibition "The Southwest German Avant-Garde in the Field of Oskar Schlemmer's Work", which will take place from January 22 to March 7, 2015 in the gallery in Stuttgart at Kleiner Schlossplatz 11. With approximately 60 works, the ONLINE exhibition provides a diverse insight into the work of Oskar Schlemmer's companions, who are represented in our gallery. The visitor can expect a selection of exclusive positions of Classical Modernism from the Hölzel Circle to the Üechtgruppe and the Bauhaus to the independent work of Julius Bissier.

Starting from Adolf Hölzel, who not only influenced pioneers of modernism such as Willi Baumeister, Johannes Itten or Ida Kerkovius, but was also inspired by his students - including Josef Eberz, Adolf Fleischmann or Alfred Heinrich Pellegrini - his teachings also drew further circles thanks to Schlemmer: with Baumeister, his close friend since his student years, Gottfried Graf, Edmund Daniel Kinzinger, Albert Mueller and others, he founded the Üecht Group. With Itten he worked at the Bauhaus, always in contact with Baumeister, through whom he met Julius Bissier. Common to all was a high awareness of form from the spirit of expressionism, a color-sound musicality and a transcendent openness.
