Hölzel - Figurative / Capriccios

Welcome to our online exhibition

We are pleased to invite you to the exhibition "Adolf Hölzel - Figurative", which will take place from January 22 to March 7, 2015 - parallel to the main exhibition - in the gallery in Stuttgart at Kleiner Schlossplatz 11.

With 20 works, the ONLINE exhibition provides an overview of the figurative drawing of the pioneer of modernism in Stuttgart. The focus is on the Capriccios from the collection of the Stuttgart entrepreneur Paul Beck, which not only torpedo the conservative norms of the academic establishment with whimsical wit, provocative sensuality and playful gesture, but also gleefully undermine their own set of rules. Hölzel, on the other hand, takes the liberty of bold reduction by setting spontaneous, loose strokes - entirely in the spirit of his teaching - that develop from the formless circling with the pencil to the group scene or the individual figure, from where his two-dimensionally constructed color cosmos also extends.
