Great events require special attention. With its new exhibition in Stuttgart, on Kleiner Schlossplatz, Galerie Schlichtenmaier is celebrating the 100th birthday of the painter Fred Thieler, who is one of the outstanding artists of the second half of the 20th century. The great museums of the Federal Republic, first and foremost the Berlin National Gallery, recognized early on the power of Thieler's oeuvre. His work outgrew itself over the course of some four decades, and the impact of the experimental art professor on the repositioning of painting in the 1980s and 1990s, namely on the gestural or neo-realist "Neutöners" (Markus Lüpertz, Peter Sorge, and others) as well as on the so-called Neue Wilde (from Rainer Fetting to Salomé) was enormous.
