The new exhibition with works by Eckart Hahn bears the title "Shimenawa" - this word, exotic-sounding to European ears, stands on the one hand for the increasing mysteriousness of the world: those who no longer know or accept the basic conventions lose all contexts and are confronted with a reality of their own. On the other hand, the title term refers to a rope made of straw, which in Shintoism marks a boundary between life on this side and the seat of the gods on the other side. Eckart Hahn's art is aware of symbolism that is not so much religious as it looks at the virtual and numinous world to question what is seen and to immortalize the unbelievable on canvas.
