Martin Bruno Schmid prefers to do art on buildings, whereby he is less concerned with a treatment of the visible external surfaces than with intervention on subordinate parts of the wall or even in barely visible places. In the case of the "Goldstück", Schmid developed a work for art 'in' the building. On the occasion of an art competition for the foyer of the Humboldt Forum in the Berlin Palace in 2019, handmade dowel objects made of pure gold were created, 64 of which were to be sunk into the masonry in such a way that they would have remained visible only as a circular shape. The contribution was a minimalist replica of the political statement, especially in the context of the Humboldt Forum, that culture is an investment for the future. The Humboldt brothers stood up for a comprehensive educational system that should benefit as many people as possible. The banality of the form (which was, after all, a truly ingenious invention) combined with the noble material unites low and high culture. Martin Bruno Schmid received the first prize for his project, but it was not implemented. The dowels in the size of 15 mm are now offered in a polished and matt form, either anchored in the wall or on a base with a glass cover. Realized dowels in different sizes (15 mm, 12 mm and smaller), which are not understood as an edition, but numbered independently of the size.
