Since 2008 Peter Sehringer has repeatedly painted the supposedly "fair sex" - no question, the attractiveness of the subject is motivating enough, but the artist aims at the female figure in its complexity and mysteriousness. In doing so, he refers to the tradition of art history, which is full of women as saints and seductresses, witches and heroines. Sehringer seems to be playing with these ambivalent ideas and this complex subject matter, because if one literally translates the term for the title of the painting "Beletage", it describes an exclusive, "beautiful storey". In contrast to the Pop Art artists of the English-speaking world, Sehringer, for all his affinity, succeeds most sensitively in capturing the back-and-forth projected onto femininity in his paintings in a meaningful and profound way.
