Miriam Vlaming, one of the protagonists of the younger Leipzig School, takes up narrative elements from the world of myths and fairy tales, but also from contemporary times, in order to point to the mysterious complexity of our world of thought: Collective as well as individual memories, biographical as well as genre-related, archaic as well as known intertwine. Vlaming deliberately does not use primary colors, preferring mixed pigments. The fact that she uses egg tempera almost exclusively is a reference to the old tradition of painting, which she also addresses with her work: real models - photographs, her own painterly motifs from other works, etc. - are painted over, blanks and fragments are given their own status in the composition. "I work in a multi-layered way. Under each picture several approaches are recognizable. It is precisely the fragmentary that forms the basic tapestry of my painting." The painter's worldview is a postmodern contribution to symbolic cultural anthropology: culture appears here as a network of meanings, a "dense description" (Clifford Geertz) of the web of meaning in which man is entangled.
