The egg oil tempera work "Rondine B 27.1.1962" consisting of color pigments, poppy seed oil and egg white is an outstanding work in the artistic oeuvre of Julius Bissier. On view are various geometric forms, reduced in hue, that oscillate between thing-like and calligraphic appearance, surface and line drawing, organic and geometric. Measured against the other content restraint, even almost East Asian seeming sparseness on the picture surface, the format-filling Kmposition of this work is surprising. The dynamics and apparent flexibility of the figurations as well as the unity of the composition stand in contrast to each other and increase the expressive power. All elements of the sheet are kept in balance, albeit a highly complex balance: the moving, the static, the introverted, the extroverted, tension and calm, isolation and security form a unity. Despite its restrained colorfulness, the painting possesses a magical luminosity and exudes a sensual aura.
