This painting by Luzia Simons with the serial number "Stockage 101 - 2/6" belongs to a series of flower paintings whose accurately designed composition with white and pink blossoms throughout seems to be designed for a harmony in beauty, which is further emphasized by the uniformly square format. However, closer inspection reveals the progressive decay of the floral splendor. Growth and baroque opulence are only the front side of a process whose flip side is withering - which, however, exerts its own fascination on the viewer. While at first whole flowers dominate the scenery, from picture to picture it turns out more clearly to be an illusion: stems are only visible individually, and where one would assume them to be hidden, an arrangement emerges only from the blossoms, which mysteriously emerge from the black background, or more precisely: sink. Finally, a still life reveals itself in the suspended state of its increasingly fragmented individual parts - ravishingly beautiful, in the process of dissolution.
