From the end of the 1940s, the Erfurt-born artist Otto Ritschl left behind his artistic beginnings in the style of Expressionism, Surrealism and Cubism and, from 1950 at the latest, found his personal abstract painting style. The color fields of "Composition 57/1", executed in brown, yellow and red tones, are characterized by a strict regularity - a stylistic feature that is characteristic of Ritschl's paintings of this geo-metric-constructivist work phase.
