Gelinde Beck is one of the most important German sculptors of the second half of the 20th century due to her formally disciplined aesthetics as well as a reduced yet determined and expressive visual language. In addition to signal-like pillar forms, which she called "Steles" in a way that was as well thought-out as it was traditionally conscious, she created tubular constructions in space as well as game-like gyroscopes. The "Figure in Tubular Landscape" says something not only about the internal interplay of concretely structured, albeit non-objective forms, but also about the communication capabilities of art and its direct, especially architecture-related, environment. The steel ensemble fits ideally into the park grounds, as if it were taking possession of its cultivated nature: on and above the meadow ground. In contrast, the singular figure of the "Homage to Dore Hoyer", towering like an astronomical measuring device, stages itself less on the surface than on the spot. While similar constructions actually refer to Copernicus et al. in the title, the Hoyer series refers to a famous dancer who led expressive dance to new dimensions over decades. The column sculpture, which spirals upwards at an angle and has several rotationally symmetrical parts, stands for the dynamics of a circling movement. The "Homage" was the last monumental work of the already seriously ill 75-year-old artist.
