Peter Sehringer irritates with the ironic title "Star and Stripes". Of course, it has nothing to do with U.S. national emblems, but with the fact that a female star is seen here and a moving wall of stripes in the background. Thus the figurative foreground and the abstract background are given. Although also abstracted, the woman radiates out of herself with exalted gestures. Tanned in complexion, she wears a dress that one almost believes to feel as velvety. The pose is suitable for the catwalk. But since Sehringer works from the surface and on top of that with stencils, the figure is purely painterly nothing more than the halfway gestural unfolding striped background, which can also be interpreted as a concretely painted wall. The pleasurable surface treatment is as sovereign as the formally refined composition.
