In Volker Blumkowski's work from 2021, one is initially confronted with an idyllic scene: grazing sheep in the foreground, on a hill above which the black and white animals continue to stretch across the sky in the form of clouds - one thinks of "sheep clouds". Irritation arises from the group of figures on the right, facing the sea. On closer inspection, one will interpret the people as refugees: in any case, a group of people who seem to be waiting for something in the distance. Blumkowski, who always philosophically questions his work by painting, thought here of a thought of Martin Heidegger, for whom the animals live in time, because they do not see through it, while man creates his time - at the risk of losing his innocence.
