Hiroyuki Masuyama makes time his subject. The artist is concerned with positioning time and the people who live in it. He himself as a photographer is located in the present. But by citing the Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich as his source, he not only goes to the time of the aforementioned painter, but also seeks out the places where the latter had stood when he painted his works. Here, it is the painting "Two Men Contemplating the Moon 1819/20" that the photographer puts himself in to recreate what the romanticist believed he saw only within himself. In hundreds of digital photographs, Masuyama recreates the scene to bring the painting's mood into the present. To alienate this veritable appropriation again, the artist uses light boxes with LED lighting, which heightens the impression of this journey through time.
