Passionate cineaste Friedemann Hahn repeatedly brings icons of film to the screen, including Clark Gable and Jeanne Moreau, Lara Turner and Lino Ven-tura, or Ingrid Bergman, Kirk Douglas, or - as in the case of this painted-over drawing - Humphrey Bogart. With astonishing painterly delicacy, the graphite drawing sketches a film still of the actor in order to turn this cliché-laden movie star into the background of a free painting with yellow, blue, and red brushstrokes. The enigmatic charm is intensified by the fact that Hahn blurs the drawing with terpen-tin to create a moving blur.
