Axel Anklam starts from elements of nature, which he translates into an abstract visual language. Whether it is mountain massifs or the forces of nature, the experience is elementary and thus fundamental for the sculptor: it is therefore not a matter of a particular landscape or another specific natural (pre)image that is to be depicted. The mountain wall becomes a relief with incised lines and lightly folded steel sheets; nature goddesses, alluding to transformation or movement, become steel meshes that abandon their plastic mass in favor of an indescribable lightness. In addition, Anklam creates three-dimensional objects that oppose nature with autonomous spatial bodies-or rather, set them aside. Illusions leaves the viewer plenty of room to read the works purely aesthetically or as ciphers for the forces and concrete nature.
