Painting is for Beate Knapp experienced process, of whose liveliness the pulsating of her pictorial lecture testifies. The motif does not want to be an example or a model, but gives rise to the discovery of colors and forms. Thematically illuminated, they are aesthetically exaggerated existential interrogations: The series of her cameras, typewriters or rabbits on wheels are emblematic of contents such as vigilance, speed and vitality. Seemingly inconsequential everyday objects are transformed into pictorial stories and, in their heightened presence, reflect contemporary events as an experience palpable in painting. The objects are heightened into the superreal through enlargement and isolation: the thing undergoes a transformation into living existence. By repeatedly walking around the things during the act of painting and viewing them from different perspectives and distances, the artist heightens their presence to the point of consternation.
