With his "Crystal World" pictures, which followed the "Cosmos" series and in the context of which this "Reflection on Appearance" also belongs, Bernd Zimmer has untouched nature before his eyes. However, to equate it with the primordiality of the jungle does not do justice to the works. It is a supposed idyll: although there is often the impression of a spring area, which refers to metaphors of origin and purity, Zimmer sets accents with a radiant, if not aggressive - and from the pigments: poisonous - green, which contrasts the fascinating beauty of nature with its danger. As in a crystalline world, the effect of these paintings oscillates between an enchanted forest and a frozen world, which is also the subject of a science fiction novel by James Graham Ballard entitled "Crystal World," but which Zimmer deliberately counteracts, since he is not concerned with visions of doom.
